Are you ready to gear up for fall and winter without breaking the bank? Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 22, as the Tahoe Expedition Academy (TEA) proudly announces the return of its annual Gear Market fundraiser event. This cherished one-day celebration will take place at the Tahoe Expedition Academy Martis Valley campus from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

A Community Tradition to Kick Off the School Year

The annual Gear Market is more than just an opportunity to acquire affordable gear; it’s a vibrant community event that embodies the spirit of collaboration, sustainability, and mutual support. Whether you’re looking for camping equipment, skis, bikes, sports gear, or children’s outerwear, this event will have it all at unbeatable prices.

“We love hosting the Annual Gear Market every year. It’s a fantastic way to get the essential gear for the year without emptying your wallet, and it truly reflects our mission of supporting one another and protecting the environment… It is our pleasure to offer a platform to recycle and reuse high-quality and often expensive gear—especially for growing kids—so people don’t have to keep buying new stuff every year.” – Courtenay Wallpe, TEA’s Director of Development and event organizer

Proceeds with a Purpose

In line with TEA’s mission of fostering community and environmental stewardship, this event also aims to give back. Proceeds from the Gear Market will be shared with the Sierra Community House, aiding families in need throughout the region. This collaboration supports essential food insecurity and crisis intervention programs, ensuring that the benefits of this market stretch far beyond just those who attend.

David Maher, Tahoe Expedition Academy’s Head of School, underscores the importance of accessibility and community partnership: “At TEA, we are committed to teaching our students to explore the world around them and to be conscious citizens who are passionate about building a just and equitable world in the future. The annual Gear Market helps make the equipment needed to thrive in a challenging, changing environment more accessible. Also, partnering with Sierra Community House is a tremendous opportunity for our students to work with an incredible organization that shares in our collective mission of empowering those in need of support.”

What to Expect at the Event

Get ready for a wide array of items priced at “garage sale” levels. Imagine picking up kids’ skis for less than $75, helmets for $5, and bikes for $50. All items for sale have been generously donated by TEA families, faculty, staff, community members, and local business partners. Unsold items will be donated to local nonprofit organizations, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

Yet, the event isn’t just about shopping. Families can enjoy added activities like live music from the Brazilian and Latin jazz band, Sonido Sueño, and a student council bake sale. It’s a great way to spend a Sunday morning, soaking in community vibes and entertainment.
